Internal Communications & The Remote Workforce Struggle: What Other Communications Experts Are Saying
Within internal communications and the remote workforce, there are plenty of issues that can begin to appear. Oftentimes, we will find that remote workers are looking for flexibility and freedom. As more workers prefer to work from home, it can feel like a challenge to accommodate them appropriately.
ALI Conferences ran a survey asking people what their biggest remote workforce struggle was. The results are the following:
- 43% of respondents said collaboration and communication is their biggest struggle.
- 35% of respondents said staying motivated is their biggest struggle.
- 16% of respondents said distractions at home are their biggest struggle.
- 6% of respondents said different timezones than their team is their biggest struggle.
As we can tell from this survey, the number of challenges businesses face with their remote workforce varies at best. From these results, we can determine that it may not be the lack of communication tools available, but the processes and systems.
Properly aligning communication processes and systems takes time. Without clear ownership, employees and managers can feel overwhelmed and underprepared.
As remote work becomes more common, companies need to prepare on how to not only serve their employees but help them flourish. This kind of atmosphere is crucial for any business, but especially for those who work remotely and cannot rely on several conference meetings to talk issues over.
Once again, organizations must act with the intention to create a space for their teammates to connect and be vulnerable. As remote work becomes more common, companies need to prepare on how to not only serve their employees but help them flourish.
